Embracing the new and exciting and exploring the unknown – this has always been our driving force at Zuco 103. From the moment we, Lilian Vieira (vocals/lyrics), Stefan Schmid (keys/production), and Stefan Kruger (drums/production)met, experimentation became second nature. In the early ’90s, we started as Rec.a., blending Brazilian sounds with a jazz attitude, dance beats and dub influences.

In 1999, we officially became Zuco 103 and released our debut album, Outro Lado. Our bold fusion of musical styles earned us recognition as pioneers of Brazilectro: A fresh new genre that grew into an international movement, inspiring a scene of like-minded artists and DJs. We also reinvented drum’n‘bass, infusing it with samba, bossa nova, and dub in a way that felt organic, refreshing, and irresistibly danceable.

Our radical openness to new sounds and ideas has paid off. Over the past 25 years, we’ve released nine critically acclaimed albums, produced several number-one singles, and performed at clubs and festivals worldwide. Highlights include Fuji Rock Japan, Rock Werchter, and the North Sea Jazz Festival. Along the way, we’ve collaborated with incredible artists like Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Joe Jackson. Though our long career and extensive discography position us as veterans of the scene, we remain more vital than ever.

In 2023, we released Telenova, a collection of intimate songs, up-tempo funk, and Brazilian and Afro-Cuban grooves. Produced during the pandemic, we spent lockdown re-sampling some of our favorite musical ideas, reworking melodies and rhythms—blending the classic with the cutting-edge; a balance we’ve honed through years of improvisation, risk-taking, and live performances. The response from audiences worldwide has been electrifying—bouncing, yelling, and always wanting more.”

And the journey continues! In 2025, we’ll celebrate our 25th anniversary with brand-new music and touring. Oh, the thrill of something fresh and vibrant!
