Tripicalismo (2019)
In a way, you could see Zuco 103 as the updated version of the Tropicália movement in late 1960s Brazil. However, while the protagonists of that cultural movement primarily drew inspiration from Western pop and rock to create their innovative Brazilian sound, Zuco 103's compass points even further. The band seamlessly forges logical connections between the traditional music of Brazil's Northeast, funk, dub, and the latest electronic sounds. In that sense, Zuco 103 is more of a mentality than a strictly defined genre.
As of 2019, Zuco 103 sounds more cohesive than ever: their wild mix of influences has deepened into an intense audio storm that continues to electrify live audiences. The various projects undertaken by Vieira, Kruger, and Schmid after their After the Carnaval album (2008) have provided new inspiration. Meanwhile, the global rise of tropical electronic music has led to widespread recognition of the pioneering role that Zuco 103 has always played. Shouts to Joe Jackson for the song Soca Do Dia. A great collab with a great artist!
