Whaa (2005)
In 2005, we released Whaa!, our fourth album as Zuco 103, delving deeper into the fusion of Brazilian rhythms with electronic beats, jazz, and funk. Our trio continued to explore and expand the Brazilectro genre we helped pioneer.
This album features 13 tracks, including Na Mangueira, Futebol, and Duele Le Le. We had the pleasure of collaborating with legendary artists like Lee "Scratch" Perry, who lent his unique style to Love Is Queen Omega and It's A Woman's World. Our compositions blend traditional Brazilian sounds with contemporary electronic elements, creating a vibrant and dynamic listening experience.
Recording sessions for Whaa! took place in multiple studios across Brazil and the Netherlands, such as Studio Le Roy and Studio Groenland in the Netherlands, as well as Dub Studios in São Paulo and Suzano Studio in Rio de Janeiro. This geographical diversity in recording locations contributed to the rich tapestry of sounds and influences present throughout the album.
The album was released under the Ziriguiboom label, a subsidiary of Crammed Discs, known for promoting eclectic and world music artists. Whaa! received critical acclaim for its inventive soundscapes and seamless integration of diverse musical styles, solidifying Zuco 103's reputation as trailblazers in the world music scene.
